Most people spend only a handful of hours outside each week, but because humans co-evolved with our natural environment, this disconnect is harmful to both ourselves and to our natural world. At Ensō Therapeutic Horticulture, we seek to reconnect you to the living world to improve your physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness through horticultural and nature-based activities that are customized to your interests and abilities. We believe that through this reforged connection you will come to understand and care for our planet in new and active ways to the benefit of all.

Ensō Therapeutic Horticulture takes the approach that gardening doesn’t only take place in the garden. Not only can a garden be a plot of land, it can be a single pot on a windowsill. We can care for, connect with, and tend wild places without directly cultivating them. The soil beneath our feet is its own ecology of organisms we would do well to attend to more carefully. Equally, we each must care for our own personal interior landscape. All of these things connect through our thoughts and actions, so intention and attention are fundamental to our ethos.

We offer horticulture- and nature-based programs and services to individual, group, nonprofit, and business clients to enrich individual wellbeing and social cohesion through interaction with plants and the environment. Our offerings include workshops, retreats, one-on-one sessions and activities, indoor greenscaping, therapeutic garden design, design consultations and collaborations, workplace wellness, hands-on floristry, recreational activities, walks and hikes, professional development, and more.

Therapeutic horticulture is the purposeful use of plants, gardening, and nature-based activities to improve an individual's physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Guided by a trained professional, the practice uses hands-on engagement with the natural world to help participants reach specific goals. By actively nurturing plants, individuals can experience reduced stress, improved focus, increased confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose and connection. Therapeutic horticulture is a natural bridge to mindfulness, creativity, and self-expression as participants witness the tangible, living results of their care.
Therapeutic horticulture also offers several subtle quality of life benefits:

We partner with nonprofits, schools, libraries, churches, and retirement communities in the region to offer programs and events to their service communities, complementing their existing services and bringing a new facet of wellness to their offerings.

We work with corporate clients on a unique suite of programs designed to promote self-care in the work environment as part of a retreat, through self-care workshops, or with plant installations that provide passive benefits. Our practices are shown to increase satisfaction and reduce workplace stress.

We provide individuals the opportunity to work with us one-on-one to advance their personal goals for mental, spiritual, and physical wellbeing. These sessions may take place in their own garden or in a range of spaces conducive to their desired outcomes. We also consult with individual clients to design therapeutic garden spaces tailored to their specific needs.
